The Quaife Torque-Biasing differential functions as an open differential until it detects a loss of traction at one wheel. Once this happens, it automatically directs up to 80% of engine torque to the wheel with better traction. This operation requires no adjustments to the differential itself; only springs, sway bars, and shocks are used for tuning.

It has been proven that an Open Differential is faster on oval tracks than a spool, cam, and pawl, or Salisbury differential, as the open diff frees up the car to run fast on the straight, without binding in the corners. An aluminum Differential Housing can save as much as 7.5#. The lighter weight ensures faster acceleration and better braking for classes requiring an open differential.
